Ingredients

  • All-Purpose Flour (3 cups) – The base of the dough.
  • Granulated Sugar (¼ cup) – Adds a touch of sweetness.
  • Instant Yeast (2 ¼ tsp / 1 packet) – Helps the dough rise.
  • Whole Milk (¾ cup, warm) – Activates the yeast and makes the dough soft.
  • Butter (4 tbsp, melted) – Adds richness.
  • Eggs (2 large, room temperature) – Binds the dough together.
  • Vanilla Extract (1 tbsp) – Enhances the flavor.
  • Salt (½ tsp) – Balances the sweetness.
  • Vegetable Oil (for frying) – Creates that golden, crispy exterior.
  • Powdered Sugar (for dusting) – The perfect finishing touch!

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, whisk warm milk with sugar and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until combined.
  4. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes (by hand or in a stand mixer with a dough hook) until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.

Step 2: Roll & Cut the Dough

  1. Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough to about ½ inch thickness.
  2. Cut into squares or rounds using a knife or a biscuit cutter.

Step 3: Fry the Beignets

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry beignets in batches for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  3. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Step 4: Dust & Serve

  1. Generously dust with powdered sugar while still warm.
  2. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Let the dough rise fully for the lightest texture.
  • Keep the oil temperature steady to avoid greasy beignets.
  • Dust with powdered sugar right after frying so it sticks well.
