Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup eggnog
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Eggnog Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons eggnog
  • Pinch of nutmeg (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggnog, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, beating until smooth.

Step 2: Combine and Chill
4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
5. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to make it easier to handle.

Step 3: Bake the Cookies
6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
7. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underdone, but they’ll firm up as they cool.
9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Step 4: Add the Eggnog Glaze (Optional)
10. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and eggnog until smooth.
11. Drizzle or spread the glaze over cooled cookies, and sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg for a festive finish.

Notes

  • Don’t Skip the Chill Time: Chilling the dough prevents spreading and helps the cookies hold their shape.
  • Use Fresh Spices: Freshly grated nutmeg and good-quality cinnamon enhance the flavors.
  • Customize the Glaze: Add a touch of rum extract or a dash of cinnamon to the glaze for an extra burst of flavor.
