Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes (by hand or in a stand mixer with a dough hook) until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Make the Lemon Filling
- In a small bowl, mix together softened butter, sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice until smooth. Set aside.
Step 3: Shape the Rolls
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a 12×18-inch rectangle.
- Spread the lemon filling evenly over the dough.
- Starting from the long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log.
- Slice the log into 12 equal rolls and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
Step 4: Bake the Rolls
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly while preparing the glaze.
Step 5: Make the Lemon Glaze
- In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
- If the glaze is too thick, add a little milk to reach the desired consistency.
