Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed: Store-bought makes this recipe a breeze.
- 1 cup ricotta cheese: Smooth and creamy for the filling.
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar: Adds just the right amount of sweetness.
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract: Enhances the flavor.
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips: Perfectly sized for even distribution in the filling.
- 1 egg, beaten: For brushing the pastry and sealing edges.
- Powdered sugar (for dusting): Optional, for a decorative finish.
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: Prepare the Ricotta Filling
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth.
- Fold in the mini chocolate chips and set aside.
Step 3: Assemble the Pastry Squares
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 8 equal squares.
- Place a heaping tablespoon of the ricotta filling in the center of each square.
- Fold the corners of each square over the filling, pinching them together to form a neat packet. Alternatively, leave them open for a rustic look.
- Transfer the squares to the prepared baking sheet.
Step 4: Brush with Egg Wash
- Lightly brush the tops and edges of the pastry squares with the beaten egg to ensure a golden, shiny finish.
Step 5: Bake
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
Step 6: Dust with Powdered Sugar (Optional)
- Before serving, sprinkle the pastry squares with a light dusting of powdered sugar for a touch of sweetness and elegance.
Notes
- Thaw the Puff Pastry Properly: Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to make it easy to work with.
- Don’t Overfill: Too much filling may cause the pastry to leak during baking.
- Use Fresh Ricotta: For the best flavor and texture, opt for fresh ricotta cheese.
- Experiment with Flavors: Add a pinch of cinnamon or orange zest to the filling for a unique twist.
