Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Prepare the Ricotta Filling

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth.
  2. Fold in the mini chocolate chips and set aside.

Step 3: Assemble the Pastry Squares

  1. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 8 equal squares.
  2. Place a heaping tablespoon of the ricotta filling in the center of each square.
  3. Fold the corners of each square over the filling, pinching them together to form a neat packet. Alternatively, leave them open for a rustic look.
  4. Transfer the squares to the prepared baking sheet.

Step 4: Brush with Egg Wash

  1. Lightly brush the tops and edges of the pastry squares with the beaten egg to ensure a golden, shiny finish.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  2. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

Step 6: Dust with Powdered Sugar (Optional)

  1. Before serving, sprinkle the pastry squares with a light dusting of powdered sugar for a touch of sweetness and elegance.
