Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ravioli – Use cheese, spinach, or meat-filled ravioli.
- 2 tbsp butter – For a rich, creamy base.
- 1 tbsp olive oil – Helps sauté the mushrooms perfectly.
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced – Cremini or button mushrooms work great.
- 2 cloves garlic, minced – Adds amazing depth of flavor.
- ½ tsp salt – Enhances the taste of the sauce.
- ¼ tsp black pepper – Adds a subtle kick.
- ½ cup vegetable or chicken broth – Helps create a flavorful sauce base.
- 1 cup heavy cream – Makes the sauce thick and luscious.
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese – Adds a nutty, salty finish.
- 1 tsp fresh thyme or ½ tsp dried thyme – Complements the mushrooms beautifully.
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional) – For a hint of heat.
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped – For garnish and freshness.
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Ravioli
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the ravioli and cook according to the package instructions (usually 3-5 minutes).
- Reserve ½ cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.
Step 2: Sauté the Mushrooms
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add olive oil.
- Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and softened.
- Stir in the garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
Step 3: Make the Creamy Sauce
- Pour in the broth and let it simmer for 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Reduce heat to low and add the heavy cream, stirring to combine.
- Let the sauce simmer gently for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 4: Add the Cheese & Ravioli
- Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, allowing it to melt into the sauce.
- Add the cooked ravioli to the skillet, gently tossing to coat in the sauce.
- If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of the reserved pasta water to loosen it up.
Step 5: Serve and Garnish
- Sprinkle with fresh parsley and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Serve hot, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese.
Notes
- Use Fresh Ravioli – Fresh ravioli cooks quickly and has the best texture.
- Don’t Overcook the Ravioli – Drain it as soon as it’s tender to prevent it from becoming mushy.
- Balance the Sauce – If the sauce gets too thick, add a splash of broth or pasta water.
- Add Protein – Want to make it heartier? Add grilled chicken or shrimp.
