Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes (with juices)
- 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
- 2 cups beef broth (or water)
- 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Ground Beef
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Break it up as it cooks to ensure even cooking.
- Drain any excess fat and return the beef to the pan.
Step 2: Add the Veggies and Seasonings
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan with the beef. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the onion is softened.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 3: Add the Pasta
- Add the uncooked elbow macaroni to the skillet, making sure it’s covered with the liquid.
- Bring everything to a simmer and cook, uncovered, for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is cooked and the sauce has thickened.
Step 4: Serve and Enjoy
- Once the pasta is tender and the sauce has thickened, remove the pan from the heat.
- If desired, sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese and let it melt before serving.
Notes
- Add Vegetables: You can toss in chopped bell peppers, carrots, or even peas to add more color and nutrition.
- Make it Spicy: If you like a little heat, add red pepper flakes or a splash of hot sauce.
- Use Ground Turkey or Chicken: For a leaner option, ground turkey or chicken works great in this recipe.
