Ingredients
For the Sloppy Joe Filling:
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Garlic Bread:
- 4 large slices of Italian bread (or thick, crusty bread of choice)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Garlic Bread
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and Parmesan cheese.
- Brush the garlic butter mixture generously on both sides of the Italian bread slices.
- Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are crispy and golden.
Step 2: Cook the Sloppy Joe Filling
- While the garlic bread is baking, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon until browned and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet and cook for another 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and sugar.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, and let the mixture simmer on low for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 3: Assemble the Sloppy Joes
- Once the garlic bread is done, remove it from the oven.
- Spoon a generous amount of the sloppy joe filling onto one slice of garlic bread.
- Top with the second slice of garlic bread to form a sandwich.
Step 4: Serve & Garnish
- Cut the sandwiches in half for easier serving, and sprinkle with fresh parsley for garnish.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
Customize the Meat – You can swap the ground beef for ground turkey, chicken, or even a plant-based ground meat alternative.
Adjust the Spice – If you like a little heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sloppy joe filling.
Use Thick Bread – The thicker the bread, the better it will hold the juicy sloppy joe filling.
