Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional, for added chocolatey goodness)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Pan

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly with butter.

Step 2: Mix the Wet Ingredients

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth and combined.
  2. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Step 3: Add the Dry Ingredients

  1. Stir in the unsweetened cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until just combined.
  2. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  3. For chewier brownies, bake closer to 20 minutes; for firmer brownies, bake for the full 25 minutes.

Step 5: Cool & Serve

  1. Let the brownies cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Cut into squares and serve!

Notes

  • Don’t Overmix: Mix the ingredients until just combined to keep your brownies chewy.
  • Add Mix-ins: Customize your brownies with nuts (walnuts, pecans) or extra chocolate chips.
  • Check for Doneness: Brownies should still be slightly soft in the center when you remove them from the oven.
