Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey: Your choice for a flavorful protein base.
  • 1 small onion, diced: Adds depth and sweetness to the dish.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced: For an extra punch of flavor.
  • 2 cups pasta (elbow macaroni or penne): The perfect base for the casserole.
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes: Adds a juicy and tangy layer.
  • 1 cup tomato sauce: For a rich, saucy component.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning: Enhances the overall flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese: Gooey and melty perfection.
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese: For a creamy, cheesy topping.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste: To season everything perfectly.
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional): For garnish.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Pasta

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
  3. Drain and set aside.

Step 2: Cook the Beef Mixture

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned.
  3. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 3: Assemble the Casserole

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta and beef mixture. Mix well to coat evenly.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle cheddar cheese evenly over the top, followed by mozzarella.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

  1. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
  2. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Choose the Right Pasta: Elbow macaroni or penne work best, but feel free to experiment with your favorites.
  • Add Veggies: Mix in diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or zucchini for added nutrition.
  • Use Fresh Cheese: Grating your own cheese ensures it melts smoothly.
  • Make It Spicy: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little kick.
