Ingredients
- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 ½ cups Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
- 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
For Dipping:
- Marinara sauce
- Ranch dressing
- Spicy sriracha mayo
Instructions
Step 1: Freeze the Cheese
- Cut mozzarella sticks into bite-sized pieces.
- Place on a baking sheet and freeze for 30 minutes (this prevents melting while frying).
Step 2: Set Up the Breading Station
- In one bowl, add flour.
- In a second bowl, whisk eggs and milk together.
- In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
Step 3: Coat the Mozzarella Bites
- Dip each frozen mozzarella bite into the flour, coating well.
- Then dip into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully covered.
- Finally, coat in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- For an extra crispy coating, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps once more.
Step 4: Fry Until Golden
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry mozzarella bites in batches for 1-2 minutes, until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Step 5: Serve & Enjoy!
- Serve hot with marinara sauce, ranch, or sriracha mayo for dipping.
Notes
Freeze Before Frying – Prevents cheese from oozing out too quickly.
Don’t Overcrowd the Pan – Fry in small batches for even cooking.
For Extra Flavor – Add grated Parmesan to the breadcrumb mixture.
Make-Ahead Tip – Freeze breaded cheese bites for up to 3 months, then fry when ready.
