Ingredients

Scale

1 lb ground chicken
1 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, finely diced
½ green bell pepper, finely chopped
½ red bell pepper, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
1 tbsp Cajun seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
1 cup tomato sauce
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (or soy sauce as a substitute)
1 tsp brown sugar (optional, balances the spice)
4 hamburger buns
Butter or oil for toasting buns
Optional toppings: sliced pickles, coleslaw, cheddar cheese, or hot sauce

Instructions

Step 1: Sauté the Veggies
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Add onion and bell peppers. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.

Step 2: Cook the Chicken
Add ground chicken to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon.
Season with salt, pepper, and Cajun seasoning.
Cook until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes.

Step 3: Make the Sauce
Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar (if using).
Lower heat and simmer for 5–10 minutes until thickened slightly.

Step 4: Toast the Buns
While the meat simmers, toast buns in a skillet with a bit of butter or oil until golden.

Step 5: Assemble and Serve
Spoon generous portions of the Cajun chicken mixture onto toasted buns.
Add your favorite toppings and serve hot.

Notes

Adjust Heat – Add cayenne or hot sauce for extra spice, or reduce Cajun seasoning for a milder version
Toast Those Buns – Adds flavor and helps prevent sogginess
Make It Saucy – Add a splash of broth or water if the mixture gets too thick
Go Beyond the Bun – Serve over rice, on baked potatoes, or stuffed in peppers
