Description

Looking for a delicious appetizer or snack that’s crispy on the outside, cheesy on the inside, and packed with wholesome goodness? These Broccoli Cheese Balls are the answer! Perfect for parties, game days, or even as a fun way to sneak veggies into your family’s diet, they’re easy to make and irresistibly tasty.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh broccoli florets: Steamed and finely chopped.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese: For gooey, cheesy goodness.
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese: Adds a salty, nutty flavor.
  • 1 large egg: To bind the mixture.
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs: Regular or panko for extra crunch.
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder: For a hint of savory flavor.
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder: Adds depth to the seasoning.
  • ½ teaspoon paprika: For a subtle smokiness.
  • Salt and pepper to taste: To enhance the flavors.
  • Additional breadcrumbs: For coating.
  • Cooking spray or oil: For baking or frying.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Broccoli

  1. Steam the broccoli florets for 3-5 minutes until tender.
  2. Finely chop the steamed broccoli or pulse it in a food processor.

Step 2: Mix the Ingredients
3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped broccoli, cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 3: Shape the Balls
4. Take about a tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a ball. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
5. Roll each ball in additional breadcrumbs to coat.

Step 4: Cook the Balls

Baking Option:
6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray lightly with cooking spray.
7. Place the balls on the baking sheet and spray the tops lightly with cooking spray.
8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

Frying Option:
9. Heat about ½ inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat.
10. Fry the balls in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
11. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Notes

  • Chop Broccoli Finely: Ensures the mixture binds well and has a uniform texture.
  • Adjust Seasoning: Add more spices or herbs like parsley or chili flakes for extra flavor.
  • Use Panko Breadcrumbs: For a crunchier exterior.
