Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 1 large ripe avocado, peeled and pitted

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (full-fat or low-fat)

  • 1 small cucumber, grated and squeezed to remove excess water

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice (about half a lemon)

  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, finely chopped (or 1 tsp dried dill)

  • 1 tbsp fresh mint, finely chopped (optional)

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp ground cumin (optional, for warmth and depth)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cucumber
Grate the cucumber using a box grater.
Place the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and squeeze out as much water as possible. This keeps the tzatziki from becoming watery.

Step 2: Mash the Avocado
In a medium bowl, mash the avocado until mostly smooth. A few small chunks are okay for texture.

Step 3: Combine with Yogurt
Add the Greek yogurt to the mashed avocado and stir until well combined and creamy.

Step 4: Add Flavorings
Stir in the grated cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, dill, mint (if using), olive oil, salt, pepper, and cumin.
Mix well until fully incorporated.

Step 5: Adjust Seasoning
Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Add more lemon juice for brightness or salt for balance.

Step 6: Chill Before Serving
Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
Serve chilled for the best taste and texture.

Notes

Use Ripe Avocado – A soft, ripe avocado gives the best creamy texture.
Drain the Cucumber – Extra moisture will water down the dip, so be thorough.
Fresh Herbs Matter – Fresh dill and mint add a burst of flavor that dried herbs can’t match.
Add a Kick – Want a little spice? Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or cayenne.
Smooth or Chunky – Blend everything for a smooth dip, or mash by hand for a more rustic texture.
